Family Grocery Shopping on a Budget
Grocery shopping on a budget can be difficult especially if you have a family or other people to feed beside yourself.
Setting a grocery budget and sticking to it can seem impossible sometimes. Prices are constantly rising and the kid's appetites seem to grow daily, but you can save money by shopping on a budget. Here are 5 tips for shopping on a budget with a family.
Grocery Shopping on a Budget
1.Set your grocery budget for the week or month. This is the amount that you are going to spend and not go over. You are going to withdraw that amount in cash and not a dollar more. Do not take your debit or credit card with you to the grocery store and you will not be tempted to go over your budget. Challenge yourself while shopping to see if you can get everything on your list for less than the amount in your budget for extra savings.
2.Never shop without a list. When you shop without a list, you are much more likely to buy things that aren't really necessary. Before you know it, you have a cart full of things you do not really need and now you don't have enough money left in your budget to buy your staples. So, shop from your list and if you come in under budget, choose one item to splurge on. Avoid impulse purchases.
3.Use your store circulars and coupons to plan your menu. Sit down every week with your local grocery store's sale circular and match your coupons to items that are on sale. Now, plan your family's meals around those items. This can save you so much money. Having a menu plan will also help alleviate the stress of what to cook every day.
4.Does your local grocery store have a loyalty card? If they do, make sure to sign up and use your card with every purchase. Some of these cards will double coupons or earn points towards free products. Check with the store manager to learn all of the benefits of using the card.
5.Go grocery shopping after a meal, especially if you are shopping with your kids. When you are hungry, everything in the store looks delicious, even things you normally wouldn't eat!You will be tempted to buy everything when you're hungry, so shop on a full stomach.
With grocery prices going up and families growing, finding a way to stay on budget is a challenge. Follow our 5 tips for shopping on a budget with a family to make it a little easier. You'll be glad you did!
