Work From Home Craigslist Job Scams
I am always looking for different work from home jobs to see if they are valid and you can actually make an income. Lately, I have been seeing a lot of work from home craigslist job scams. Even though the jobs sound legit you really have to spend some time researching it before giving out your personal information or applying for the job.
Work From Home Craigslist Job Scams
If you work from home you may already have a list of sites that you trust and go to when looking for work such as elance and odesk. If you currently do not work from home but are interested I want to offer you a word of caution before turning to find a job on Craigslist. Do not get me wrong, I love Craigslist. We have sold a lot of items on their site, but whenever I started looking into the work from home jobs I was very hesitant. There have been a lot of scams listed on the site and sometimes it is difficult to know if a job is legit or not. Like other websites out there, you can always find a scam similar to rebate processing jobs.If you come across a job on Craigslist that you are interested in applying for I would first say to turn to Google to do some research. Is there a company name in the Craigslist ad? Or a contact name, email address or phone number? Google any and all possible information you can get that pertain to the job listing. If the job is legit, you should be able to find something that gives you more information about the company. If it is a scam, you will usually find someone who was scammed or almost got scammed by the same ad. You would be surprised how easy it is to weed out a lot of the bad ads and focus on the legit ones just by using Google. If nothing comes up about the company at all in Google I would definitely be very cautious and seek to find out more. You can also check social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or G+ to see if the company or contact has a page or profile. LinkedIn is also a good place to search. The basic premise is that nowadays, most reputable businesses have a real presence on social media. It is how they interact with clients and customers. I know not everyone has social media platforms for their business but it is a great place to find out more information. So, if you aren't finding anything at all online about a specific company, proceed with caution if you choose to reply to that ad.Never give personal information to anyone until you are absolutely certain that they are legit. Unfortunately, you have to err on the side of caution and not be too trusting or naive. I know the law says innocent until proven guilty but when it comes to sorting out the scams, I say guilty until proven innocent. Never, ever assume someone is legit just because they are nice to you on the phone or seem nice through an email. Get any information from them that you can and then do your research. I have heard about a lot of work from home craigslist job scams where someone applies for a 'so-called' job and then there identity is stolen. You know the saying, "if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is?" Well, it's absolutely true. I cannot stress that enough. The promise of fast, easy money can be tempting but always use logic and common sense. If a job is that easy, why would they pay you so much money instead of doing it themselves? The reason is that they are not legit and you will be the one held responsible for the scam by your financial institution.Craigslist is a great resource, but just be aware that there are a lot of scams. This is not just in the work from home section and can even be for when you are selling items. I have even had people respond back to my ads to purchase an item that have been fake.If you do your research and are careful with who you trust online, Craigslist can be a great resource for work from home jobs.
