Keeping Your Infant Safe At Home

Keeping your infant safe at home is definitely a worry every parent has on their mind. Even if your child is just an infant it is important to recognize the different threats and potential hazards around your home even before your baby makes their arrival. You may be unsure of what to look for or how you can keep them safe. Here are some things to pay attention to in you home:Drowning and suffocation are one of the main causes of fatal accidents for children four years of age and younger. Falls account for most non-fatal accidents.

Basic tips:Take your child with you if you are unsure he or she can be left alone for a few minutes. Never take a risk if you have doubts.Pick up walkway hazards and other objects that may make a child trip.Do not allow cords to be left within a child's reach.Secure heavy objects so that they don't fall on the baby.Keep heavy objects on shelves out of reach so baby cannot pull them on himself.Keep furniture that a child can climb on away from windows.Place stickers on windows and sliding doors to remind your child there is glass in that space.Keep sharp objects up and locked away.Keep matches away from a child's reach.Never leave your pet alone with baby- no matter how much you trust them! And keep cats out of baby's sleeping area. Cats can suffocate children without trying to be malicious.Place all cleaning supplies in a locked cabinet.Keep your child out of the kitchen while you cook.Place containers with hot liquids away from ledges and out of baby's reach.
