I feel like my whole life is a battle against time.
I am constantly trying to squeeze in as much as I possibly can each day and I still feel like I did not get everything done. The last thing I want to do is sit down and pay my bills. Not only do I HATE having to send out money, but I HATE wasting time by sitting there writing out checks.
I am sure you can relate. You have work, family, friends, household duties and then to top it off you have a bunch of bills that need to get paid.
You may not believe it, but paying bills does not have to take up a lot of time and you can even save a few dollars here and there while you are doing it.
Here are 7 simple ways to save money and time on paying your bills each month.
7 Simple Ways to Save Money & Time Paying your Bills:
1. Organize all of your bills by due date. Whether you receive paper bills or e-bills you should set up a folder where everything is sorted by the date the bill is due. Your bills will always be paid on time and you will not incur late fees for forgetting to pay a bill or paying late. I have a post about organizing your monthly bills that you can take a look at to help you get started. Avoiding late fees can really help to put some extra cash in your pocket each month.
2. Pay off balances on any credit cards you have {if possible}. Keep one or two cards and cut up the rest to reduce the amount of bills you have to pay each month and also keep you from spending more than you should. If you do not have any extra money to put towards your credit card bills then try to consolidate so that you are not paying double interest on both credit cards. But, if you do have some extra money try to put it towards those balances each month. A little bit extra each month can make a huge difference.
3. Use a budget to track all of your income and expenses. Not only will it help you to keep track of your payments and when they are due but it will help you to see where you are spending your money each month. Having an idea of all your expenses will allow you to see what costs you can cutback on each month. A budget will help you to stay organized and prevent late payment fees and missed payments.
4. Set up auto pay for your bills and never have to worry about making a payment again. {Make sure to stick to your budget so that you don't over-draft your bank account} Not only will this help you to stay on track but you do not have to spend any time paying your bills. Score!
5. Pay your bills online. Save money on stamps by paying your monthly bills from your computer. Plus, it is quick and simple so that you can get back to having fun and not sitting down to write a ton of checks.
6. Set up mobile alerts to remind you when a bill needs paid. We all forget something here and there but having an alert to remind you is a great way to stay on top of your bills. Make sure you set your alerts to repeat each month. I love using the calendar on my phone and having alerts set with certain events. I always like to have the alert pop-up a day or two before it is due.
7. If you pay separate bills for cable, internet, home phone and cell phone, check with your service providers to see if they offer a bundle of multiple services for a reduced price. We have a bundle that combines home phone, cable and internet onto 1 bill to save us money each month.
Plus, it is easier to have it all in once place. I am always calling our cable company to see what better offers they have to try to reduce our monthly bill. You already have a lot on your plate.
